Not every radio presenter can hold a note, but Angela Kalule holds several. A dynamic Ugandan singer-songwriter, bandleader, and radio voice, she has spent over two decades crafting music that seamlessly blends soul, blues, Afro-fusion, and cultural authenticity into something uniquely her own.
Born in Kampala and raised between Uganda and Kenya, Angela is the eldest of three. Her early education spanned Aga Khan Nursery (Nairobi), Spire Road Primary (Jinja), and Makonzi Boarding Primary (Mubende), before completing her A-levels in 1998 and earning a degree in Information Management.
At just 11, Angela was already singing in church and school choirs. By 1997, she joined Kato Lubwama’s Diamond Ensemble, recording the breakout single “Akamuli.” Her style matured through stints with Light Rays and further diamond collaborations like “Akasisi.”
In 2004, she teamed up with Tshaka Mayanja on the jazz-soul project Dark Chocolate. Two years later, she released "Kakondo," showcasing her bilingual artistry. In 2010, Angela formed her own K’Angie Band, earning acclaim for live performances of hits like "Katikitiki," "Kankwekumire," and "Engoyagoya."
Her single Katikitiki won Song of the Year and Best Live Band Single at the 2011 Pearl of Africa Music Awards, solidifying her place in Uganda’s music legacy. In 2013, her band reached the finals of Nile Gold’s Last Band Standing.
Now based in the U.S., Angela continues performing while advocating for fair media representation of Ugandan artists. A mother of three, she remains passionate about women’s empowerment, HIV awareness, and mental health.
